reSonance 1+2
You do not touch it. You do not need to.
reSonance 1+2 is a two-part sound installation built around two theremins - instruments that respond to the proximity and movement of the human body without any physical contact. As people enter the space, approach each other, hold still or shift, the theremins register every adjustment. Frequency and volume change not because anyone plays them in the conventional sense, but because bodies are present. The room listens to how people are with each other.
The work draws on Hartmut Rosa's concept of resonance - the idea that a life is not measured by achievement or accumulation, but by the moments in which something genuinely reaches us, and we reach back. Here that reaching is made audible. Two people moving toward each other produce something different from two people keeping their distance. The installation does not judge either. It simply makes the dynamic between them heard.
Come alone and one theremin speaks. Come with others and something more complex emerges - a sound shaped by proximity, hesitation, attention, and the subtle negotiations of shared space.
